From Anchorage, drive south on the Seward Highway to the Fish Hatchery at Upper Trail Lake, which is just south of the turnoff for the Sterling Highway. Park at the lot for the Johnson Pass Trail and hike the trail on the north side of the lake for 10-15 minutes. The route, which is visible from the highway should come into view to the left of the trail.
