Ice Guide : Southcentral : Matanuska River : Caribou Creek : China Wear

China wear

Rating: WI4
Length: 30 meters

This route rarely forms up big and most often consists of a snow incline to a thin curtain. On a good year, the ice forms a nice 30 foot bulge right off of the river with a large committing curtain at the end.

FA: Scott Mignery & Chris Roach, 1990

Anchor: Alders are available at the finish of these routes for a rappel.

After about 2.5 to 3 miles from the Caribou Creek bridge the river narrows some and takes a rather dramatic turn. In this switchback is a nice climb on the right.
