Delta River Ice Climbing

North on the Richardson Highway from Glennallen one will find the Delta River.  The Delta River cuts through the Alaska Range heading north into one of the most beautiful areas of the state.  Most of the known ice exists near the Black Rapids area in some of the immediate tributaries of the Delta River.  This area is more interior to the state and can be extremely cold during the winter months.  Be prepared to bring lots of warm clothing or attack this area in early or late season.

If leaving from Anchorage, head north on the Glenn Highway and travel three hours all the way to Glennallen proper.  Turn left and head north on the Richardson Highway.  After about another 2 hours, one will begin entering the big mountains of the Alaska Range and the climbs of the Delta River area.
