Approximately 1.5 hours north of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway, one will come to Hicks Creek.  Hicks offers several worthy climbs up the creek and requires ample time for the river to freeze to gain access.  Road Kill is visible from the road and can be enticing.  But be sure to check out some of the others in this valley.  A five mile approach will lead one to some of the better climbs.
