Caribou Creek Ice Climbing - Kantellia Falls

Rating: WI5
Length: 120 meters

Approach: Kantellia Falls is the first of two prizes that await anyone willing to commit to the five mile, one-way approach. These climbs are only accessible in late season after Caribou Creek has had ample time to freeze up. Caribou Creek will begin to narrow and eventually become a short, unclimable waterfall where Kantellia Falls comes into view. A beautiful camping area nearby makes this a popular weekend trip destination.

Route: Kantellia exists in close proximity to Robopick and is the longest of the two. The first pitch of Kantellia climbs a committing 20-25 meter vertical curtain right off the start. The second takes you through more moderate climbing then a steep 10 meter pillar before topping out. WARNING: In late season, direct sunlight on the climb and the nearby rocks walls causes increased instability. Be prepared to deal with falling rock and ice.

Anchor: The top of the second pitch takes you to alder bushes where an anchor is available. Be prepared to make a v-thread for the final (second) rappel.
